"The coordinated activities of these professional networks would greatly assist the Commission in promoting open and flexible learning schemes, help facilitate lifelong learning and support the development of a 'Europe of Knowledge'.

Through the liaison committee the networks will have a common interface with European institutions, notably the Commission, helping them to advise on the implementation of Community action in the field of ODL and the use of new technologies in education.”
